Pancake Day: A Sweet Tradition That Supports Local Youth

Every year, on the third Thursday in March, the community of Cabarrus County gathers for one of its most cherished traditions—Pancake Day at the Boys & Girls Club of Cabarrus County. This beloved event, often referred to as a “Concord Holiday,” has been bringing people together for over 65 years, serving up delicious pancakes while making a meaningful impact on local youth.
A Time-Honored Tradition
Pancake Day first began in 1957, founded by the Kiwanis Club, and has since grown into one of Concord’s largest social events. Each year, board members, staff, and dedicated volunteers spend the day cooking and serving pancakes and sausage to over 5,000 hungry attendees. Families, friends, and co-workers come together to enjoy a meal, knowing that their participation directly supports the mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Cabarrus County.

More Than Just Pancakes
While the menu may be simple—two fluffy pancakes, two pieces of sausage, and a drink of choice (Sun Drop, Cheerwine, coffee, milk, or water per tradition)—the impact of Pancake Day is profound. This annual fundraiser generates over $100,000 to provide after-school and summer programs for children right here in our community.

Adding to the Fun: 50/50 Raffle
Attendees can also participate in a 50/50 raffle for a chance to win a cash prize while further supporting the Boys & Girls Club. While volunteers are flipping pancakes you have an opportunity to flip your luck with a raffle ticket, offering a shot to win a hefty cash prize. In 2024, the 50/50 Raffle raised $5,856 and the lucky winner took home an impressive half of the pot, totaling $2,928!
Why It Matters
Beyond the delicious food and friendly atmosphere, Pancake Day is an easy yet powerful way to support local youth. The funds raised help provide children and families with affordable programs, mentorship opportunities, and a safe space to learn and grow. Every ticket purchased, every raffle entry, and every donation contributes to a brighter future for the young people of Cabarrus County.
