The newest addition to Cabarrus County’s wine scene, the Cellar Door Wine Shop is now OPEN! “Located in the heart of downtown Concord, at the corner of Union and Cabarrus, Cellar Door Wine Shop is your destination for high-quality wines, wine experiences, and friendly guidance.”

Owners Robin and Andrew Angell had a shared vision to bring a unique wine experience to the community. Originally from Ohio, the Angells found themselves drawn to the charm of downtown Concord six and a half years ago.

With the idea of a cozy retail space offering unique wines, not available in larger stores, they set out to fill a void in the local market. After a year of research and planning, the perfect space became available on Union Street in October, and they celebrated their soft opening on January 27.

The Cellar Door Wine Shop aims to provide a retail-only experience with a focus on a welcoming atmosphere. Establishing a personal connection with customers, engaging in conversations about preferences, and providing tailored recommendations is their primary focus with their new store.

  • For those new to the world of wine, the couple is eager to guide them through the process, exploring their flavor preferences and introducing them to new experiences.

The shop will feature specialty and small production batches from wineries across the globe, with a particular emphasis on cleaner and more organic options.

The goal is to expose Cabarrus County to a diverse range of international wines, catering to varying budgets. The shop’s commitment to quality is evident in its selection process, ensuring a wide array of choices for customers.

  • “Every bottle tells a story. We hand-select wines from small family-run vineyards from around the world. Many of our wines are sustainably produced, free from chemical additives, and not found in other local stores.”

They currently have about 200 bottles on the shelves waiting for you, with more being delivered weekly!

Featured Wines and Tastings Planned

Keep an eye out for the shop’s “Wines of the Week” program, highlighting one white and one red wine each week with samples available. The shop will also host “walk-up” wine tastings, offering an informal and open-house style experience.

  • For those seeking a deeper understanding, reservation-based, educational events will be organized, allowing customers to meet winemakers and representatives.

In addition to wines, the Cellar Door will offer small gifts, food items, and a refrigerated section for customers who want to take home a chilled bottle of wine for a perfect evening in.

Wine birthday celebration

As the Cellar Door Wine Shop anticipates its grand opening, Robin and Andrew are thrilled to be a part of the evolving downtown scene and the newly announced social district. Their dedication to the community is evident, as they actively participated in surveys and community meetings regarding the downtown streetscape, reflecting their love for the neighborhood and surrounding area.

  • Andrew said they envision their establishment as an anchor business, contributing to the growth and development of downtown.

As the Angells embark on this new chapter, they are grateful for the overwhelming support received from the local community and neighboring businesses. Collaborations with establishments like Cut at an Angle for special occasions like Valentine’s Day, reflect their commitment to fostering relationships within the downtown Concord community.
