Local artists and downtown merchants welcome you to downtown Concord for the popular all-day arts festival.

Art Walk on Union has a slightly revised layout but is most definitely ready for the community to stroll downtown on Saturday, April 1st from 11am-4pm. Our local artists and downtown merchants are counting on you to come out and support them!

Did you know that 2023 is the Year of the Trail in North Carolina? Our friends at Walk Cabarrus have an entire section of their website dedicated to Where to Walk, including all of the great trails around Cabarrus County.

🥾 Each month, there’s a theme for Year of the Trail, along with an activity to go along with it. For February, they want to invite you on a date on one of your favorite trails… and for you to invite a friend or loved one to join you!

  • Fun Fact: Galentine’s Day was created by Leslie Knope, the Parks and Recreation fictional main character. She invented the holiday as a tribute to her close girlfriends!

Several events are planned around Cabarrus County to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Everyone is welcome to attend.

☑️ MLK DreamDay Parade: The MLK DreamDay Parade will begin on Saturday, January 14th at A.L. Brown High School – 415 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, Kannapolis @ 9:00 am. The parade will march the length of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue and end at Atrium Health Ballpark. 


KANNAPOLIS – WEST AVE. DISTRICT

The Gem Theatre, in downtown Kannapolis, originally opened on December 31, 1936. A fire gutted the theatre and was reduced to ashes in 1942.

CONCORD MILLS

We are “flying high” over the news that Cirque Italia will be presenting their Water Circus Gold show at Concord Mills (parking lot near AMC Concord Mills 24) from March 16-19th.

✨⏳ Attendees will travel back to the 1950s to an era of sock hops, drive-in theaters, muscle cars, and poodle skirts in this new 2023 show. The stage holds 35,000 gallons of water that performers dazzle over while thrilling the audience with every move. With this unique feature under the tent, guests will be surprised, for it’s a show of its own!


CONCORD – DOWNTOWN

Derek Kilgore has been passionate about cigars for over a decade, which is why he opened The Cigar Loft in January of 2020.

Whether you are a cigar aficionado or a novice looking to learn more, The Cigar Loft has something for everyone.


KANNAPOLIS – WEST AVE. DISTRICT

The Kannapolis Cannon Ballers first home game is just a few months away on April 18th. Now is the time to reserve your tickets to a great evening out at the ballpark.

New this year are mini-plans that include a collection of 10 games covering the entire season (approximately 2 per month). Plan holders have the option to exchange up to three dates, but the exchange must be made 48 hours prior to the game, and may not have the exact same seats.


CONCORD – GIBSON MILL

Tucked beneath a variety of delicious restaurant offerings, on the lower level of the Gibson Mill Market, there is a place where all imaginations are welcome.

  • It’s a place where fathers and daughters can bond over the shared joy of good storytelling. It’s a place where new friendships are formed and old ones are rekindled during hours-long adventures. It’s a place where regulars arrive at their usual café order waiting for them at their usual table because the owners actually took the time to get to know them.

Today, January 4, is #NationalTriviaDay. The holiday recognizes the collectors of unconnected, irrelevant data, facts, history, and quotes each year. Trivia Nights are all the rage for Friends Nights Out and we have compiled a list of local places that have weekly trivia competitions.

  • Grab some friends and make a resolution to try all of the different trivia nights around the county in 2023.

Christmas is over and the race to ring in the new year is upon us! Stay close to home with these local celebrations and make the commute easier on a night when careful travel matters. Secure your DD or make other arrangements to get home after saying farewell to 2022!

MOUNT PLEASANT

The “Collecting the Great War” exhibit features over 200 World War I items collected and donated by Dave Goff (pictured above) and supplemented by items from the ECHS permanent collection.

The Eastern Cabarrus Historical Society Museum had been closed for approximately 10 weeks to allow volunteers time to update displays and install this new exhibit for 2023.

As Black History Month kicks off, be sure to make plans to attend the 2023 North Carolina Black Heritage Festival at the Cabarrus Arena on Feb 26th from 1-5 pm. This year’s theme is “Remember the Past, Celebrate the Present, & Shape the Future.”

  • This is a great way to support black-owned businesses with over 100 companies represented with free giveaways, discounts, and coupons making the vendor shopping experience like none other.

This family-friendly event also features performances, a kids’ zone, arts & crafts, and a lot of fun!

As the new year begins, health and fitness resolutions continue to be a priority. Gym regulars dread the month of January when all of the “newbies” show up and classes and weight rooms are more crowded. However, we want to see Cabarrus County be as healthy as possible.

Traditional bowling leagues still exist that many of us grew up going to with our parents, and places like Top Golf offer leagues as well. But axe throwing is the latest way to be social and get physical activity at the same time through leagues.
