Major recording artists are coming to Cabarrus County this summer! The Kannapolis Summer Concert Series is highlighted by Deana Carter, Grand Funk Railroad, Collective Soul, Eddie Montgomery of Montgomery Gentry, and Chairmen of the Board. 📍 Where is it happening? Concerts and movies are held at Kannapolis’ large outdoor amphitheater in Village Park. More concerts take place on Thursdays in Veterans Park. Several Scenes from New Movie Filmed in Cabarrus County   🎥 Filming facts: Filming took place during the spring and summer of 2021, with scenes shot in Charlotte, Concord, Kannapolis, and Hickory. Actresses Rachel McAdams, from films like Mean Girls, Wedding Crashers, and The Notebook, and Kathy Bates, a multiple Emmy, and Academy Award winner, were in Cabarrus County filming a scene. Gem Theatre Turns 86 on New Year’s Eve

The Gem Theatre, in downtown Kannapolis, originally opened on December 31, 1936. A fire gutted the theatre and was reduced to ashes in 1942. The theatre was rebuilt in 1948 and featured a beautiful lobby and 916 seats, including the balcony section. The Gem has been open ever since and is one of the oldest single-screen movie theatres in continuous operation today and is also one of only a few movie theatres that offer balcony seating.
