πŸ“ Events in Kannapolis and Concord

The annual celebration begins on Saturday, Jan 13th, and continues through Monday, Jan 15th. This year’s theme, β€œUnarmed Truth & Unconditional Love: That’s what DREAMS are made of!” speaks volumes about the progress made in advancing diverse populations throughout our community.

Event Schedule

Saturday, Jan 13th

  • πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ The Dream Day Parade, 11am in Kannapolis
    πŸ“ The parade will begin at the intersection of Main Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue and travel down Main Street to Laureate Way, ending at City Hall, 401 Laureate Way.
  • Dream Day Event, 12–3pm in Kannapolis
    πŸ“ After the parade, enjoy a series of activities at the Laureate Center, located at Kannapolis City Hall.
    🐟 Fish Fry Lunch in the Loop (free with non-perishable food drive donation), 🚚 Food Trucks, πŸ›οΈ Minority Business Expo, 🚸 Kids Zone, πŸ’  Health and Wellness Fair, and πŸŽ“ Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Information Fair.

Sunday, Jan 14th

  • Keeper of the Dream Banquet, 3–6pm in Concord
    πŸ“ City Club at Gibson Mill
    🎟️ Get Tickets ($50)
    Enjoy a gourmet lunch, heartfelt speeches, a message from keynote speaker, Tim Atwell, and a dance performance as community neighbors who work diligently to make life better for all to keep Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s dream alive are recognized and awarded.

Monday, Jan 15th

  • Memorial March, 11:30am in Concord
    πŸ“ Starting from Historic Barber-Scotia College, the march will travel along Cabarrus Ave to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza.
  • Wreath Laying Ceremony, 12pm in Concord
    πŸ“Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza (Cabarrus Ave Round-About)
    The wreath-laying ceremony will immediately follow the march, featuring speaker President Chris Rey of the Historic Barber-Scotia College.

Events are sponsored by the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Planning Committee of Concord-Cabarrus and the City of Kannapolis.
