In a collaborative effort to blend art and mental health initiatives, the Cabarrus Arts Council and Mental Health America of Central Carolinas are set to host an inspiring event, Art in Mind, on February 29, 2024, at the Historic Cabarrus County Courthouse and the Davis Theater in downtown Concord.

  • This unique celebration aims to support local artistry while raising awareness about mental health.

Art in Mind promises a diverse range of artistic expressions, from paintings to sculptures to jewelry, catering to both art enthusiasts and serious collectors. The event will feature a silent auction, spoken performances, and music, all intertwined with personal testimonies highlighting the profound connection between art and mental well-being.

Clean Hands by Morgan English will be part of the auction.

Local Artists Supporting Mental Wellness

This inaugural event is made possible by the generous contributions of local artists who have pledged a significant portion or all of their auction proceeds to advance the shared mission of the Arts Council and MHA in promoting mental wellness.

The event will showcase a talented lineup of artists including including Morgan English, Matthew Pommell, Kat Cornelius, Thelathia Singleton, Elijah Kell, Lily Roman, Josh King, April Simmons, Olivia Magistro, Kathleen Blackwell-Plank, June-Ni, Allison Chambers, Edwin Gil, Keon Lewis, Toni Evans, and many more.

Sasha Banks, Director of Development and Community Engagement at Cabarrus Arts Council, expressed excitement about the event, stating:

  • β€œArt in Mind is an excellent opportunity to experience an auction arranged within a performance and benefit setting. It offers valuable insight into the impact of the arts on the mental wellness of local community members.”

Andrea Towner, Development Director at MHA, envisions Art in Mind becoming an annual favorite, emphasizing the healing power of art.

  • β€œWe’re honored to partner with Cabarrus Arts Council to strengthen community mental wellness and opportunities for self-expression,” said Towner.

Supporting Mental Wellness Together

Through this collaboration, MHA will continue its dedication to supporting mental health by offering various programs and trainings, while the Cabarrus Arts Council will sustain arts programming in schools and engage in community-based outreach efforts. Together, they strive to enhance mental wellness and foster creativity among Cabarrus County residents.

Tickets for Art in Mind are on sale now and can be purchased online or by calling the Arts Council Box Office at 704-920-2787. General admission tickets are priced at $40 and VIP Experience tickets, offering additional perks, like a VIP reception with a champagne toast, early bidding privileges, and premium seating at the Davis Theatre, are $75.

Proceeds from Art in Mind will fund programs benefiting youth and adults in Cabarrus, furthering the shared mission of The Arts Council and MHA to promote mental wellness. The generous support of local artists, who have pledged to donate between 80 to 100% of auction proceeds, underscores the community’s commitment to this cause.

Art in Mind represents more than just an evening of art and entertainment; it symbolizes a collective commitment to nurturing the intersection of creativity and mental well-being within the community. By attending this event, you not only support local artists but also contribute to initiatives that promote mental health awareness and artistic expression.
