Cabarrus Meals on Wheels (Cabarrus MOW) is a nonprofit organization that provides a daily hot and nutritious meal to seniors and disabled individuals who are unable to shop for or prepare meals for themselves.

They have become an essential part of the community, providing not only meals but also socialization, wellness checks, and peace of mind for families. All of this allows seniors to live independently longer in their own homes – which is where they really want to be.

  • β€œIt sure is nice to know you have a good meal on the way, especially when you feel so bad you can’t do much for yourself. The volunteers are so nice and friendly. It’s wonderful to see a smiling face. Thanks so much for the food and the great volunteers.” – June A., age 76

The organization was established in 1974 and currently serves over 500 meals per day with the help of volunteers. While Cabarrus MOW has approximately 300 volunteers on roster, only about 100 volunteer on a regular basis. Meal delivery volunteers are the heart and soul of Cabarrus MOW and are needed every weekday.

  • β€œI love the meals. It is the only meal that I eat most days. It feels good knowing that the volunteers will be coming every day.” – Danny H., age 67

Volunteering to assist with meal delivery is easy and flexible. Volunteers can choose to deliver daily, weekly, or on an as-needed basis that fits their schedule. Training and support are provided to ensure a positive experience for both volunteer and meal recipient. The only requirements to be a Cabarrus MOW volunteer are:

  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must have car insurance coverage
  • Must have a vehicle

Individuals who prefer to work behind the scenes but still want to make a difference in the community can volunteer for office support and assist with administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, and answering phones.

To get involved with Cabarrus MOW, individuals, families, and organizations can visit the website for detailed information about volunteer opportunities, find contact information to get started, and see open delivery routes that need to be covered.
